It’s that time of year again: time for an official announcement of Gifting 2025! The new Gifting Event will go LIVE Monday December 8 and last until Monday January 12! This year’s event will include many changes to the reward and requirements! For this post, we will provide a list of updated rules and prizes so PLEASE read these changes carefully if you're thinking of participating in Gifting! If you find that this year’s rewards are not to your liking, you are welcome to sit this one out.

 

Master Policy

The final word of all rules and regulations is Nightwraith. If something is not explicitly covered in these Gifting rules, Nightwraith has final say to approve or deny any requests not explicitly outlined in these rules.

These rules are for the upcoming Gifting season. They do not apply retroactively, and they override rules from previous seasons. If someone was able to do something or get something 1, 2, or 5 years ago, it doesn’t matter since only these new rules apply!   

 

Mailbox Bloat

The changes to the basic gifts will be maintained from last year with some structural changes: We are trying to separate Gifting gifts from the player mail. If the new system works as intended, instead of opening mail to receive gifts, you will be able to open gifts from a button inside the mail interface. This should significantly reduce the login lag commonly experienced during Gifting.

Like last year, the possible gifts will be limited to Credits and Arcade Tokens. Items that were formerly in the prize pool will be available for purchase at a holiday shop. While it may not be as thrilling as unwrapping rare items, this approach ensures smoother performance and easier inventory management.

 

Rewards

While the 2024 Gifting season was successful, that success came at the cost of increased development responsibilities as we created and distributed more custom prizes in one year than the last 5 years of Gifting combined.

This year, we are adding back some previous reward options like hairstyles and replica items. Though the rewards are more generous, please read this section carefully. We don't want anyone to feel disappointed at the end of the event. We also don’t want to engage in any post-Gifting negotiations to find loopholes or other unreasonable requests. Also, this year, like last year, there will be no prize codes provided for the top prize.

 

Gifting Streak Tiers

One of the main contributors to the inflated scores of 2024 was a change to the Gifting Streaks. Since a 100% Global Gift for the top tier was far too generous, we are introducing 3 new Gifting streak tiers above 200: 250, 300, 400, 500. Global gifts will cap at 50% at the new top streak tier. This change is not retroactive as the achievements will not be awarded to higher streaks from previous years.

The updated Gifting streak tiers and their global gift chances will be as follows:

  • Tier 11: 50%
  • Tier 10: 45%
  • Tier 9: 40%
  • Tier 8: 35%
  • Tier 7: 30%
  • Tier 6: 25%
  • Tier 5: 20%
  • Tier 4: 15%
  • Tier 3: 10%
  • Tier 2: 5%
  • Tier 1: 0% 

 

Good Standing

You will only be eligible to receive a prize if your account is in good standing. If you are permanently banned during or after the Gifting season, you will not be eligible to receive your prize(s), even on your alternate accounts.

Other malicious behaviors like account sharing, cheating, or trying to pre-sell prizes to other players outside of the game may also negate eligibility for rewards.

 

The Top 15

The top 15 Gifters in this event will be eligible to receive one Legacy item. We will no longer offer bonus items for each additional million points this year.

*A Legacy item is any EpicDuel item aside from Founder Armor that is no longer available in-game. It could be something from a phase like the Gamma Bot or a permanent rare like the Bunnyzookas. Participants in the top 15 at the end of the event may choose 1 Legacy item. These items may have light personalized touches to them. A class-changing weapon counts as 1 item.

Please note: Personalization that includes CPU-taxing effects may affect the in-game performance for you and other players. We will try our best to optimize the items, but there are limitations to Flash’s rendering capabilities. Please consider this when conceptualizing your prize.

The #1 Gifter at the end of the event will be eligible for a custom item in addition to the Legacy Item they already earned for being in the top 15. The custom item grand prize can be an item from any existing category. If it's a category of item that has P and E variants, the opposite variant can be created as a recolor. Customization requests can be refused if they're deemed unreasonable or illegal (copy-written material, offensive, etc...) or if they exceed the limitation of the game (creating excessive lag, too large, too complex). Unlike last year, cores attached to the custom item or robot attacks CAN be customized for the #1 Gifter as long as their effects in-battle must have in-game equivalents.

Finally, we will be retaining the bonus awarded to the player or players with the most Daily Gift Leader achievements: The option for an additional Legacy item (non-Founder). Unlike last year, if there is a tie for the most Daily Gift Leader achievements, the winner will be determined by the total score achieved on the days they received the Daily Gift Leader achievements. For example, if player 1 and player 2 both have 4 Daily Gift Leader achievements, but player 1 had a score of 500,000 on each of those 4 days, while player 2's Daily Gift Leader achievements were earned with scores of 100,000 on each day, player 1 would qualify for the extra custom prize.

 

No Ties

This year there will absolutely be no ties. In the event of a tied score, the tie will be broken based on the first person to achieve the score. This can be determined easily by receipt logs.

If 2 or more people qualify for the most Daily Gift Leader achievements, the winner will be determined as described in the section above. 

 

Founder Armor Rule

This year, those who achieve a Gifting score of at least 2,000,000 AND place in the top 15 may request Founder Armor as a prize. We raised the threshold this year to combat the oversaturation of rares, compensate for score inflation, and provide an additional incentive for scores over 1,000,000.

Hypothetically, if your score is greater than 2,000,000 but you're still in 16th place, you will unfortunately not be eligible for the Founder Armor. Additionally, though this is a rare scenario, if you place in the top 15, and have the original Founder Achievement, but not the armor, you may request Founder Armor as your Legacy item.

Please note that this rule does not mean you may request Founder Armor in addition to another Legacy Rare. It simply means that the option to request Founder Armor unlocks if you place in the top 15 and have a score of over 2,000,000.

 

Score Tier Prizes

The intention for introducing these score tiers was to incentivize people to gift who aren't necessarily competing for the top 15 spots or even a daily 1st place. These tier rewards don’t seem to have achieved that desired outcome in the years we've offered them, and tier rewards involve much more work creating and distributing items during an event that already requires a lot of work and attention. Additionally, the huge workload from 2024 Gifting cut deep into our prep time for new rewards. This year, we will offer far fewer tiers with modest rewards.

This year, the score tiers will be:

  • 10,000
  • 100,000
  • 250,000
  • 1,000,000

The most interesting change is that the 1,000,000-point threshold will award an unmodified Legacy Rare (aside from Founder) of the Gifter’s choice.

 

Faction Prize

This year we will be offering a new reward to the Faction with the highest Gifting score. The player with the highest score in the winning Faction will serve as representative to request a Legacy Rare item (other than Founder) for the entire Faction. This item may be personalized with the Faction flag or Faction colors. Factions may only be eligible if their Influence is 100,000 or higher.

 

New Epic Supporter Achievements

Since the Epic Supporter achievements have been active for most of 2025 already, we are refreshing these achievements with special variants for Gifting. These new achievements will be introduced late in November to replace the current Epic Supporter achievements for the duration of Gifting.

 

Reward Summary:

  • The #1 winner may have a customized prize item with personalized core animation with their prize.
  • Top 15 Gifters are eligible for 1 Legacy item with light personal modifications.
  • Gifters with a score over 1,000,000 may request an unmodified Legacy Rare aside from Founder Armor. This extends outside the top 15.
  • The Faction that has the highest total score at the end of Gifting and has at least 100,000 Faction Influence is eligible for a personalized item aside from Founder Armor. The highest scoring member of the Faction will decide on the item to share with the Faction.
  • Those in the top 15 who have a score over 2,000,000 may also request a custom hairstyle. This style may be kept as a personal or offered in-game for a price. It can be shared with the other 15 winners and members of the winner’s Faction with over 100,000 Faction Influence.
  • If you are in the top 15 and have a score of over 3,000,000 you may request personalized active/passive cores for your personalized items. The cores must be appropriate for the item (Armor cores for armor, auxiliary cores for auxiliary, etc...) and based on existing core abilities. For balance reasons, we will not create a unique skill or more powerful version of an existing core.
  • Personalization may be refused for being excessive in terms of scope or impact on game performance.
  • Those in the top 15 may also request an item/achievement transfer from one character they own to another owned character. The number of transfers equals each million points achieved by the by the end of the event.
  • The Gifter with the most Daily Gift Leader achievements will receive a personalized Legacy Rare.
  • Winners may offer prizes to up to the other player in the top 15 plus the members of their Faction (up to 25) who have over 100,000 Faction Influence.
  • You may request the base version of your prize as a bonus. For example, if you wish for a personalized Delta Armor, you may also request the base version. However, you will not be able to share that base version.
  • No replicas will be created this year, even if it’s a very small variation of another item.
  • No prize codes will be offered to the winner this year.
  • If you request a Physical variant of an item, you may also receive an Energy variant and vice versa. For example, if you request the Bunnyzooka, you may also have the Energy Bunnyzooka.
  • If you request a Physical variant of an item and the Energy version does not exist, a new Energy version will NOT be created.
  • If you request a Physical variant of an item, you may NOT request the Energy variant of a completely different weapon.
  • Armors do not have P or E variants, but you may NOT request armor + an item.
  • The prize item can be any sword, sidearm, auxiliary, home item, armor, vehicle, mutation, bot, or class-specific item that has ever been available in-game. Founder Armor may be requested if the one who placed in the top 15 has a score of over 2,000,000.
  • The item must have been available in EpicDuel at some time, however, items from other AE games may be permitted as eligible items if the developer for that game permits it. If the item must be recreated from scratch, like converting an AQ3D item to a 2D item, the item may not be used as a prize.
  • You may NOT request the custom reward of a Gifting winner from a previous year or this year.
  • If your requested item originally included an achievement (i.e. Infernal Slayer), you will NOT also receive the achievement if you request the same item.
  • The item may have any core available in-game equipped to it as long as it's of the proper category (i.e. no auxiliary cores on primary weapons, etc...).
  • Core graphics and animations for Legacy items will NOT be customized.
  • For balance reasons, skills cannot be modified (i.e. additional damage, % effectiveness, cooldown, damage type, cost, etc...).
  • Please consider your prize carefully because once the item is in-game, there will be no revisions permitted except for bug fixes. 
  • The most prizes someone could receive are if they placed #1 with the highest gifting score of over 1,000,000, were in the Faction with the highest gifting score, and had the most Daily Gift Leader achievements. That person would have 5 total prizes: 1 custom for placing 1st, 1 personalized Legacy Rare for placing in the top 15, 1 personalized Legacy Rare for having the most Daily Gift Leader achievemnts, 1 personalized Legacy Rare for being in the highest scoring Faction, and 1 unaltered Legacy Rare for having a score of over 1,000,000.

We will work with all winners to help create the best rewards possible, but these limitations are necessary to prevent the scope of the rewards from expanding too far and eclipsing the rest of EpicDuel’s development. We tried to include as much information as possible for this post, but there still may be more changes (or things we forgot) before Gifting begins. 

 

Prize Sharing

Unfortunately, extremely generous prize sharing opens a dangerous market for selling items outside of the game. We've even seen people trying to pre-sell their rewards they haven't even earned yet! There are many scammers that try to sell rewards from past years that simply take the money and run. For that reason, we are setting a limit on the ability to share rewards to only the top 15 other winners for the 2025 Gifting season and the members in their faction (up to 25) who also have at least 100,000 Faction Influence.

Winners will not be able to share past rewards, but they can offer them in a shop. Items offered in a shop must be sold at a minimum quantity of 50 and a minimum price of 5,000 Varium. Winners from previous Gifting events will not be able to share anything.

 

Top 15 Secret and Silver Secret Package Bonus

This year we will award additional Secret and Silver Secret Packages based on placement in the top 15 at the end of the Gifting event.

  • 1st = 5 Secret / 10 Silver Secret Packages
  • 2-5 = 4 Secret / 6 Silver Secret Packages
  • 6-10 = 3 Secret / 4 Silver Secret Packages
  • 11-15 = 2 Secret / 2 Silver Secret Packages

The top 15 winners may distribute their additional packages at their discretion, but they will need to keep at least one Secret and/or Silver Secret package in their inventories until they are opened to receive the items when the packages open. Packages will open several weeks after the Gifting Event ends to allow plenty of time for the distribution to take place. At the end of Gifting, excess Secret and Silver Secret packages will transform into items that can be redeemed for Credits.

 

Legacy Secret and Silver Secret Package Bonus

As a bonus this year, much like last year, we will allow Gifters in the top 15 to use their Secret and Silver Secret Packages to claim Secret and Silver Secret rewards from previous years. This means if you want the Secret/Silver rewards from 2019 and 2020 in addition to the rewards from this current year, you will need to retain 3 Secret and 3 Silver Secret Packages in your inventory. If you wish, you will also be allowed to transfer those rewards to other people, Gifting them the Silver or Secret Package for previous years.

 

Daily Gift Legend and Daily Gift Legend 2025 Achievements

Some of the most esoteric achievements are those awarded to those who finish in the top 15 and also win the top Daily Gifter achievement for multiple years in a row. Those who won top Daily Gifter in multiple Gifting seasons between 2018 and 2025 are also eligible for a special achievement. These have to be expanded each year and can be hard to track so I'll post the new achievements for the latest season of Gifting here:

  • Daily Gift Cosmic Legend Won top Daily Gifter in 7 Gifting seasons between 2018-2025.
  • Daily Gift Cosmic Epic Legend 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 7 Gifting seasons.
  • Daily Gift Eternal Epic Legend 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 6 Gifting seasons.
  • Daily Gift Ultimate Epic Legend 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 5 Gifting seasons.
  • Daily Gift Supreme Epic Legend 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 4 Gifting seasons.
  • Daily Gift Epic Legend 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 3 Gifting seasons.
  • Daily Gift Epic Champion 2025 Placed top 15 in 2025 and won top Daily Gifter in 2 Gifting seasons.

 

Gifting Concierge

Gifting is typically a very chaotic time in EpicDuel so this role helps to keep major Gifting events from conflicting with each other and depriving the participants of their rightful rewards. Tis the Season to Be Wary

Gifting is a joyful time in EpicDuel, but it also brings out nefarious scammers who want to take advantage of other players. Don't risk your EpicDuel account or bank account for a stranger online who promises you great rewards or free Varium. Though times and technology change, the adage holds true: if someone is promising you something that seems too good to be true, it probably is! 

 

Grand Finale

I want to cap off this post by stating that this will be the last Gifting event in EpicDuel with custom prizes. We have enjoyed working with past winners making your grandest visions become reality, but we simply do not have the resources to deliver a host of custom prizes every year while also continuing to develop the game. We already have some ideas to keep the Gifting competition alive and thriving without burning out our development staff. In the meantime, we wish you the best of luck in the Gifting 2025!

Buffed Debuffs

This might be the most consequential augment update yet as we introduce many new mechanics to the battle engine including compounding debuffs and Energy cost increasing.

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (DA) Smoke Screen: Strike and reduce the Dexterity of an enemy for 2 turns.
    • (UA) Smoke Screen: Strike and reduce the Dexterity and Defense of an enemy for 3 turns.
  • Mercenary:
    • (UA) Intimidate: Strike and reduce all of an enemy's stats for 4 turns.
    • (UA) Intimidate: Strike and reduce an enemy's Strength and Rage gain for 3 turns.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (UA) Malfunction: Reduce an enemy's Technology for 3 turns; increase Energy costs by %.
    • (UA) Malfunction: Strike and reduce an enemy's Technology and Resistance for 3 turns.
  • Cyber Hunter:
    • (DA) Kernel Panic: Reduce a target's Technology and % Resistance and for 2 turns.
    • (UA) Kernel Panic: Reduce a target's Technology and % Resistance, compounding for 3 turns.
  • Blood Mage:
    • (UA) Terrify: Strike and reduce all of an enemy's stats for 4 turns.
    • (UA) Terrify: Strike and reduce an enemy's Strength for 3 turns; 15% stun chance.

It's hard to believe we added 144 new skills to the game over these last few months, but our skill-augment journey has reached its end (for now).

 

Changes

  • Adjusted scaling for the following skill augments to match the adjustment to skill level:
    • (EA) Fireball
    • (EA) Barbed Grenade
    • (EA) Static Grenade
    • (UA) Static Grenade
    • (EA) Plasma Grenade
    • (EA) Static Smash
    • (UA) Static Smash
  •  Augment selection arrows now appear level 12 and up. This was done because it was possible to manipulate the augment arrows to allocate points in skills that player couldn't invest in otherwise.

This latest update introduces new skill augments for all buffs and the remaining offensive skills. We hope you have fun trying them all out and testing new builds!

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (UA) Reflex Boost: Improve Dexterity of you or an ally for #DUR turns; 25% Energy gain for incoming dmg.
    • (DA) Reflex Boost: Improve Dexterity of you or an ally for #DUR turns.
    • (UA) Energy Shield: Increase Resistance for #DUR turns; drain attacker's Energy by 30% incoming dmg.
    • (EA) Energy Shield: Increase Resistance for #DUR turns; Defense debuff based on 20% Resistance boost.
  •  Mercenary:
    • (UA) Blood Commander: Increase Strength and Support, granting lifesteal equal to 55% of Strength gain for 4 turns.
    • (DA) Blood Commander: Increase Strength, granting lifesteal equal to 55% of Strength gain for 3 turns.
    • (UA) Berzerker: Attack an enemy for massive unblockable damage; cannot Rage.
    • (PA) Berzerker: Attack an enemy for massive damage of the opposite type.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (UA) Defense Matrix: Increases Defense for 3 turns; reflects 20% physical dmg. back at attacker.
    • (EA) Defense Matrix: Increases Defense for 3 turns; Resistance debuff based on 20% Defense boost.
    • (UA) Technician: Improve all stats fo you or an ally for 4 turns.
    • (DA) Technician: Improve Technology of you or an ally for 3 turns.
  •  Cyber Hunter:
    • (EA) Adaptive Shield: Increases Defense/Resistance for 3 turns; boosts Strength/Support 15% of Def/Res boost.
    • (EA) Adaptive Shield: Increases Defense/Resistance for 3 turns; reduces Strength/Support 10% of Def/Res boost.
    • (EA) Static Charge: Deal 85% dmg, gaining Energy and draining 60% Energy gain.
    • (EA) Static Charge: Deal 100% dmg, gaining Energy and draining 90% Energy gain.
  • Tactical Mercenary:
    • (UA) Energy Shield: Increase Resistance for 3 turns; drain attacker's Energy by 30% incoming dmg.
    • (EA) Energy Shield: Increase Resistance for 3 turns; Defense debuff based on 20% Resistance boost.
    • (DA) Field Commander: Increase Support for 3 turns; gain lifesteal equal to 50% of Support boost.
    • (UA) Field Commander: Increase Support for 4 turns; grants 50% crit chance for basic attacks.
    • (EA) Tactical Grenade: Unblockable grenade dealing 85% dmg; drains target's Energy, gains 230 Energy.
    • (EA) Tactical Grenade: Unblockable grenade dealing 100% dmg; drains target's Energy, gains 170 Energy.
  • Blood Mage:
    • (EA) Blood Instinct: Spend 40 HP to improve Dexterity of you or an ally for 4 turns.
    • (DA) Blood Instinct: Spend 40 HP to improve Dexterity of you or an ally for 3 turns; +150 Energy.
    • (DA) Blood Shield: Sacrifice 40 HP for a Resistance/Technology boost for 3 turns; +75 Energy.
    • (UA) Blood Shield: Sacrifice 40 HP for a Resistance boost for 4 turns; +25% Rage bonus.

Next week we will complete our long journey of implementing skill augments (144 new skills in total) with debuff augments, which will feature some of the most consequential (and challenging to build) new skills!

 

Balance Changes:

Rejoice! This release comes with balance changes to the promotional package cores, and this time, they are actually buffs! How fortuitously on-theme!

  • Gamma Guts (Armor) (Active): Gain 100 HP -> Gain 300 HP
  • Gamma Parrot Mimic P/E : 85% damage -> 100% damage
  • Gamma Rage (Primary): +2 Strength
  • Gamma Rage (Sidearm): +2 Dexterity
  • Gamma Rage (Aux): +2 Support
  • EA Medic: Medical Mastery only applies to the initial heal and no longer applies to the subsequent heals.


Bug Fixes:

  • EA Double Strike: Correctly reduces Defense/Resistance instead of increasing it.
  • Health reduction skills like Sea Kings Corruption, Shell Shocker, Hatchling Rush, and (UA) Crippling Strike affect heal over time on the healing ticks after the initial heal. This was challenging to fix because the heal reduction would fail inconsistently depending on turn order and other currently active skills.

EpicDuel is live with 12 new skill augments focusing on high level skills focusing on poison and Energy control. There aren't many more skills left to augment so we're very excited to see how all the classes perform with reinvigorated new skill trees.

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (UA) Venom Strike: Deal 100% dmg. and deplete target's HP / EP for 3 turns; cured by Field Medic.
    • (UA) Venom Strike: Deal 100% dmg. and poison the enemy for 30turns; cannot be cured.
  • Mercenary:
    • (EA) Static Smash: 85% unblockable dmg.; drains target's energy, absorbs 120% energy drained.
    • (UA) Static Smash: 65% unblockable dmg.; drains target's energy, absorbs 90% energy drained; no Rage gain for user.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (EA) Assimilation: Unblockable. Deal 85% dmg; drains target's energy, absorb 120% energy drained.
    • (UA) Assimilation: Unblockable. Deal 65% dmg; drains target's energy, absorb 90% energy drained; no Rage gain for user.
  • Cyber Hunter:
    • (DA) Venom Strike: Deal 100% dmg. and poison the enemy for 2 turns; cured by Field Medic.

Bux Fixes

Using an energy draining skill like Energy Shot or Soul Siphon against a target with Gamma Brand applied would cause the entire duel to crash which might appear like a lag spike or disconnect. Using these attacks on a target with Gamma Brand will now work, but won't crit because energy pool attacks cannot crit. This is because energy pool attacks inherently ignore defenses so a critical hit would have no defenses to ignore, forcing the battle engine to freeze since it's looking for information that is not provided.

EpicDuel Skill Augments Part 6

More Combat Skill Augments

This week offers yet another big update to combat skills with 12 new skill augments. There aren't many skills like these left on the trees so I think the next area of focus will be damage-over-time skills (i.e. Venom Strike).

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (EA) Static Grenade: 80% primary dmg.; drains target's energy; absorb 120% of drained energy.
    • (UA) Static Grenade: 65% primary dmg.; drains target's energy; absorb 90% of drained energy; no Rage gain.
  • Mercenary:
    • (UA) Bunker Buster: Fire a rocket that grants 20% lifesteal; 15% chance for critical strike.
    • (PA) Bunker Buster: Fire an energy rocket that ignores 15% of the target's defense; 15% chance for critical hit.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (PA) Bludgeon: Energy attack with defense ignore via the weapon's blunt end; 20% crit chance.
    • (UA) Bludgeon: Physical attack with lifesteal via the weapon's blunt end; 20% crit chance.
  • Cyber Hunter:
    • (EA) Plasma Grenade: Throw an energy grenade inflicted massive damage.

There's bound to be potential for balance tweaks after so many back-to-back skill updates so we'll go into a cooldown on new skills for next week as priorities shift to the new Gamma Pirate Promo!

 

Changes and Fixes:

  • Added measures to combat the suspected source of increased lag after last week's update.
  • (UA) Overload: Cooldown increased from 2 to 3.
  • (UA) Stun Grenade: Cooldown increased from 2 to 3. 
  • Maul (Rage drain) will now correctly reduce Rage by the % amount.
  • When a player self-applies Infernal Offering, Infernal Blessing, or EA Field Medic, and they are stunned before the last tick of healing applies, the last tick never occurs. This bug was always possible but rare, and only became reproducible after 100% augments were introduced.
  • The asset for Conductor Armor (WS) not loading correctly.

EpicDuel Skill Augments Part 5

New Augments

For this latest round of skill augments, we're again focusing on offensive skills. Originally the intention was to focus only on skills with stuff change, but not all skills have stun chance so the the augmented skills might seem a bit random w/re skill tree location.

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (UA) Stun Grenade: Inflict physical damage with a 100% stun chance; disables sender's offensive abilities.
    • (PA) Stun Grenade: Inflict energy damage with a 15% base chance to stun the enemy.
  • Mercenary:
    • (UA) Maul: Strike, draining % of target Rage with a 15% stun chance.
    • (UA) Maul: Unblockable strike, ignoring % of defenses.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (UA) Overload: Summon lightning with a 100% stun chance; disables sender's offensive abilities.
    • (EA) Overload: Summon lightning ignoring 15% of target defenses.
  • Cyber Hunter:
    • (UA) Pulse Punch: Reduce target Rage rate by % with 50% initial Rage steal.
    • (UA) Pulse Punch: % lifesteal with 50% initial Rage reduction; ignore 20% defense.
  • Tactical Mercenary:
    • (PA) Barbed Grenade: Energy damage with 15% base chance to crit; ignores 10% defense.
    • (EA) Barbed Grenade: Throw a spiked grenade inflicting Physical damage.
  • Blood Mage:
    • (PA) Bludgeon: Energy attack with defense ignore via the weapon's blunt end; 20% crit chance.
    • (UA) Bludgeon: Physical attack with defense ignore via the weapon's blunt end; 15% Energy drain.

We will continue working through the offensive skill augments before moving on to buffs and debuffs since they are more complex and generally take longer to develop. We hope you are enjoying the new augments so far as it has been thrilling to expand upon EpicDuel's battle engine after so many years of relative stasis. I can promise you that the most interesting augments are still yet to be released!

 

Balance changes:

  • (EA) Hybrid Armor: 4%-13% --> 1%-8% Defense/Resistance boost.
  • (UA) Hybrid Armor: Boosts Defense/Resistance by a flat value instead of a percentage, +17 def/res at level 1, +2 per level; keeps 25% Rage gain bonus and 5% damage-to-energy conversion
  • Deadly Precision (damage reflection): 25% --> 15% melee damage reflection.
  • Deadly Precision (sidearm): 6%-15% --> 10%-25% more sidearm damage.
  • Mania (defense reduction): Reduces 10% stats instead of 20% defense.

 

Bug fixes:

  • (EA) Double Strike: Level 10 is correctly set to 52%.
  • Healing-reduction effects dynamically affect heal-over-time (HoT) skills like Infernal Blessing.  HoT ticks are affected if a healing-reduction debuff is active when the tick occurs.
  • The counter for remaining jugg battles was off by 1.

Battle Draw Update

A few days ago, we introduced a new battle end state: Battle Draw. This state applies if the battle ends before the first turn is completed -- most commonly when the opponent instantly disconnects, either unintentionally or intentionally. Currently, in a Battle Draw, the remaining player(s) earns no Credits, Experience, or drops and the battle record is unaffected. This was deemed too punative so we have revised Battle Draws to grant a win as well as reward a small set amount of Credits and Experience. Battle Draws will still reward no drops and wil not deduct limited cores or boosts.

In summary, Battle Draws:

  • Grant a win
  • 75 Credits
  • 20 Experience
  • Do not reward war or PvP drops
  • Do not deduct a boost
  • Do not deduct a core
  • Do not factor Power Hour

We may adjust the rewards further if we see rapid disconnects continue to be abused. We are also investigating excluding Faction wins from Battle Draws, eliminating another incentive to boost wins.

New Skill Augments

Experiment with these new skill augments for all classes! Some are fairly straightforward, offering adjusted damage values or an alternative damage type, while other drastically change the skill's effect, like reducing healing effectiveness instead of defense ignore. Expect another round of skill augments next week also focusing on offensive abilities.

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (UA) Cheap Shot: Ignore % of defenses; steals Energy based on 25% damage.
    • (UA) Cheap Shot: Ignore % of defenses; unblockable.
  • Mercenary:
    • (EA) Double Strike: Attack for more dmg., defense reduction based on 50% dmg. bonus; -50% block/deflection.
    • (PA) Double Strike: Opposite dmg. type attack for more dmg., defense reduction; -50% block/deflection.
  • Tech Mage:
    • (PA) Plasma Bolt: Fire a bolt of plasma at an enemy target, dealing physical damage and ignoring 15% defense.

  • Cyber Armor (HP bleed): 60%-96% --> 75%-120% boost to armor's defenses; 40 --> 30 HP bleed
  • (UA) Mineral Armor: 10% --> 5% Energy drain
  • (EA) Mineral Armor: Flat Defense boost, +43 Defense at level 1, +3 per level; flat +20 Resistance boost
  • (EA) Reroute: 10%-35% --> 8%-30% Energy conversion
  • Mania (defense reduction): 13%-30% --> 15% --> 35% lifesteal/Rage gain
  • Infernal Blessing: 150 --> 165 HP gain per turn (readjustment since Medical Mastery no longer applies to it)

 

Battle Draw

Not a new battle mode, but a new battle state: If someone disconnects or refreshes the game before the first turn completes, the duel ends in a draw with 0 rewards, but no impact on the battle record for the person remaining. In the event of a 2v2 or Juggernaut match, the battle will only be a draw if both members of a team leave before the first turn completes. We are implementing this to counteract rapid disconnects used to boost wins and rewards for characters. Players who disconnect from battle will still face with the normal loss and run penalty.

 

Bug Fixes:

Challenges don't work while the chat filter is active. It seems crazy, but last week's chat filter changes broke challenges for people with the filter enabled. It's wild how changes to one system can completely break another seemingly unrelated system.

EpicDuel Language Filter Overhaul

Language Update

Language filter

In Settings, you now have the option of disabling the language filter. This reduces restrictions on chat, but doesn't remove them entirely. Certain language and topics are still prohibited despite the removal of the filter. Additionally, other text-based elements such as names and Faction titles are still filtered regardless of setting. If you choose to leave the filter in place, you will be unable to use inappropriate language and any inappropriate language in messages you encounter will be replaced with asterixis.

Although this feature grants more freedom for expression and communication, don't use this newfound freedom to be abusive and disrespectful to your fellow players. This feature was implemented because we believe our playerbase is mature enough to handle the looser language restrictions. We would hate to be proven wrong, but if this feature causes a flood of toxicity and harassment, it will be reverted!

 

Such Convenience

Class and gender change now dynamically unequip gear based on your class/gender requirements. If you have class-neutral weapons or armor, they will not be unequipped. This will be very convenient if you frequently change classes.

 

Bug Fixes

  • PMs sometimes failed to work after a name change.
  • Mastery cores displaying the incorrect % bonus.
  • Dark Omen could not be used on a target with Curse applied.

 

Progress

  • Skill Augments: Next week, we expect to introduce at least another 12 skill augments, focusing on the upper portion of the skill trees.
  • Gifter Prizes: More Gifter prizes are also expected to be completed next week. I can't believe it, but we're finally below double digit prizes remaining.
  • New Promo: We should have prizes for promo items available next week as well.

This week, we added augments to all the class passives! Some of these skills have drastically different functionality from their base forms so you should have a lot of fun experimenting! Be warned, however, some of the passive power boosts now come with debuff tradeoffs so be sure to read the descriptions and plan your builds carefully!

  • Bounty Hunter:
    • (UA) Blood Lust: Passively add a percentage of all damage inflicted to health and Energy.
    • (UA) Blood Lust: Passively add a percentage of all dmg. inflicted to HP; drain 5% target's Energy.
    • (EA) Shadow Arts: Boosts Robot damage by a percent; +10 dmg. to Primary, Sidearm, and Auxiliary.

    • Absorption: 35% --> 25% incoming robot damage to user's Energy.
  • Azrael's Doombringer Beauty P/E (NPC) added to The Challenger.

 

Other Changes/Fixes

  • Seasonal rares reset to their normal schedules.
  • New Settings option: disable battle backgrounds.
  • Pulse Punch: wouldn't add brace to target in the event of a stun.

 

Progress Report

  • Skill augments: I didn't take my own advice and spent too long building 24 new skill augments, plus building support for future augments. Next week, I will actually pause the augment rollout to address other items on this list. This will also give us time to address any balance issues or esoteric bugs that emerge from this update.
  • Gifting Rewards: Once again, update ate into work on the prizes due to the unexpected time allocation to the new skills and fixes for the previous week's update. Next week, I will clear my schedule to focus on Gifting prizes with as few distractions as possible.
  • Chat Filter Toggle: I am working on a change to EpicDuel's language filter that will allow people to disable the strict chat filter. A more permissive filter will remain, but it will still block the most extreme language and account security topics. That said, abusive language will still be moderated so it will be as important as ever to be respectful to each other.
  • Gamma Pirate Promo Pack: Acatriel's new promo package is currently in-progress.

EpicDuel Ultimate Skill Augments

With this update EpicDuel is introducing 24 new skill augments for ultimate and AOE skills. These add alternative damage types and secondary effects to the base skills. Some skill augments exchange effects like extra defense reduction and critical chance for lower base damage and scaling. These skills are accessed by clicking the left and right arrows that appear on the skill icon when the tree has been unlocked up to that point. It wasn't clear in the last update, but you must be at least level 10 to access the skill augments. This is to diminish confusion for new players in the tutorial.

Fixes and Changes

  • Legendary bonus applies to skills that offer healing over time like (EA) Field Medic and Infernal Blessing.
  • Critical Heal also applies to healing over time skills on subsequent turns if the HP threshold is met.
  • Reduced frame counts of several skills and attacks. Less waiting, more action!
  • Expanded text fields for skill rollovers.
  • Earning XP through mission rewards or Battlepass prizes will now trigger the Legendary Rank Up email with rewards.

 

Progress

  • Skill augments: This round of skill augments took a bit longer than anticipated since nothing new needed to be built to implement them. I may need to limit the updates to 12 augments per week to leave room for other changes.
  • Gifting Rewards: This update ate into work on the prizes due to the unexpected time allocation to the new skills and fixes for the previous week's update. With a better understanding of the time required per skill, this should not be an issue going forward. It is crucial these prizes are completed soon.
  • Chat Filter Toggle: I am working on a change to EpicDuel's language filter that will allow people to disable the strict chat filter. A more permissive filter will remain, but it will still block the most extreme language and account security topics. That said, abusive language will still be moderated so it will be as important as ever to be respectful to each other.
  • Gamma Pirate Promo Pack: Acatriel's new promo package is currently in-progress.

Who or what is Hephael? When the first colonists arrived on Delta V, they brought the myths of the old worlds with them, laying the foundation for new legends to emerge. To the superstitious of Delta V, Hephael is the god of the son and god of the forge, offering aid to followers and desolation to non-believers. Though the dominance of technology suppressed such beliefs during Delta V's peak, desperate times have caused the citizens to seek salvations through more primitive, but no less potent, means.

So you all know what you're getting into with the new bots available in this season, the skill descriptions are listed below:

  • Hephael's Avatar P
    • Hephael's Slash P: Summon Hephael's Avatar to inflict Physical Damage.
    • Hephael's Incantation P: Lock all target's skills that require Energy for 2 rounds.
  • Hephael's Avatar E
    • Hephael's Slash E: Summon Hephael's Avatar to inflict Energy Damage.
    • Hephael's Incantation E: Lock all target's skills that require Energy for 2 rounds.
  • Hephael's Frenzy: Convert 5% of outgoing dmg. to Energy if dmg. is over 50. 
  • Twilight Strike: Increases Primary Critical chance to 75% when HP is below 30%.
  • Twilight Aim: Increases Sidearm Critical chance to 75% when HP is below 30%.
  • Twilight Blast: Increases Auxiliary Critical chance to 75% when HP is below 30%.
  • Twilight Shield: Increases Defense/Resistance 15% when HP is below 30%.

 

New Skill Augments

This update, we're starting the grand implementation of skill augments. Eventually each skill will have at least 2 augments. If you're interested in the math, that means each class will have up to 531,441 potential skill combinations! Augments will come in one of four different varieties:

  • Duration Augment (DA): Changes the duration of the effect of the skill, and either strengthens or weakens the effect accordingly.
  • Utility Augment (UA): Changes one or more of the effects of the skill to another effect.
  • Polarity Augment (PA): Changes the damage type of the skill to the opposite of its base version.
  • Efficiency Augment (EA): Makes the skill weaker in one way and stronger in another.

For this release we're starting small with a skill that all 6 classes possess: Field Medic. This essential skill will receive 2 augments.

  • (EA) Field Medic: Heal yourself or an ally over 2 turns. Cures poison.
  • (UA) Field Medic: Heal yourself or an ally and remove debuffs. Cures poison.

To access these augments, retrain your character, then reduce your points in Field Medic to 1. That will reveal left and right arrows you can use to choose the augments. All skill augments will work this way when they are eventually introduced.

Please be patient as we fill out the class skill trees with new augments in the coming weeks, creating 144 new skills. We'll do our best to balance the updates so all classes get equal attention without overwhelming balance with too many options at once.

Next week, all seasonal rares will reset to their normal schedule, meaning this is your last chance to collect any remaining out-of-season seasonal rares you had your eye on!

Here's a taste of what we have cooking up in the coming weeks:

  • Skill Augments: As stated above, completing the 144 (132 after today) skill augments will be the main focus of the coming weeks. 
  • Gifting rewards: Hopefully this is the month all prizes are complete! Will the latest Battlepass out of the way, progress should be much faster.
  • New Promo: It's been ages! Acatriel is steadily working on an epic new promo!

Content Creators Unite!

For ages EpicDuel has offered special achievements for creating Youtube videos. At the time, this was the best way we could think of to reward and encourage content creators (I think the achievements are so old that "content creator" wasn't even a widely used term yet) in the community to produce videos featuring EpicDuel. Awarding these achievements was a very cumbersome and time-consuming manual process that was very antiquated and unsustainable, especially with limited resources to review dozens, if not hundreds, of videos for quality and content. 

Fortunately, Beleen has helped establish a new content creator program that serves the same purpose as our existing Youtube video achievement, but centralized and more efficient. Although this system has been available for awhile, I wanted to highlight it here to make EpicDuel's community aware that this new system has fully replaced the old Youtuber achievements. If you didn't catch the original Design Notes post, I'll repost it below for you now:

What are the rules/qualifications?

  • The Content Creators must actively make videos for, or stream, one or more Artix Entertainment games.
  • No jerks: We will not grant badges to Hacking/Cheating/Trolling/Bullying/Illegal/Harassment creators.
  • That rule above deserves additional clarification. We 100% support free speech & constructive criticism while ensuring a positive, respectful community.
  • The "THEY DID WHAT!?" Rule: If a formerly great creator turns out to be... uh.... not great. The badges will be removed from them.
  • If a content creator hits a major milestone... certain number of years making videos, or a certain number of hours streamed, send us a tip so we can give them (or make) a badge for it!

More War Shop Armors

Morzyd's War Shop has been stocked with additional War Prize armors! 

 

Bug Fixes / Changes

  • Super War items can be purchased in unlimited quantities from the ammo depots.
  • Updated vitals bar to show Critical Health threshold
  • Armor-destroying skills can still be used with armor-destroying skills that have additional effects. For example, you can use Sea King's Curse against an opponent that has already been hit with a Hammer Grenade. The armor debuff doesn't stack, so this won't conflict with already applied skills.
  • Gender-specific armors can be purchased regardless of the character's current gender.

 

Hephael Knight Battlepass

The Hephael Knight Battlepass is scheduled to be released next Friday. If you still have some items you need to collect on the current Battlepass, you still have some time! I know it seems silly to comment on this when the current Battlepass has been out since April, but somehow we always get a few emails from people mystified that the Battlepass that was in game for over 3 months is suddenly GONE! 

It might be better to have a countdown timer to show the exact amount of time remaining for each Battlepass, but I prefer to keep the dates flexible depending on when the next Battlepass items are ready.
